Concern: I want to learn about how Facebook is so popular and how it grew so fast in so little time.
Audience: Portfolio readers
Who is affected: Me, Portfolio readers, You (Sarah)
Who do sources address: Sources address the general public because they are mainly researchers who gathered information about my topic and published their findings for anyone to see but mainly academic users.
Who do I address: My main focus in my essay is to address the portfolio readers and myself since I researched and got my information from my sources, so I am combining all of my findings into one research paper.
Controlling purpose: Facebook was launched in February, 2004 and now has over 845 million users and counting. The purpose of this paper is to identify why the millions of users who log onto Facebook each day are doing it. Also I will be analyzing its effect on teenagers as well as a in-depth look into Facebook, and compare it to other social media sites. I will accomplish my purpose by using sources and incorporating my interpretation and analysis.

Assignment 12- Henry Lee
Stakeholders in Social Media essay:
- Me- I am a stakeholder because this is my research paper so I have the most to lose-if I don't pass the portfolio review.
- Individual social media sites- These sites are the reason I am writing this essay, in order to answer my research question I need to address these sites. I will consider their viewpoint by address the positives that social media sites have on teens because these sites aim to provide an online medium where their members can feel safe and comfortable while browsing their sites.
- Teenagers- Teens have a stake in my essay too because they are the demographic I am targeting in my essay so they are stakeholders. I will consider the viewpoint's of teenagers because I can relate to them and our viewpoint can help the readers gain a better understanding of my topic.
- Parents- Parents' are always trying to protect their children and sometimes they get into bad situations on these social media sites, so they too play a role in my discussion.
- Advertisers- Advertisers are the reason most social media sites are free, so they obviously put a lot of their advertising dollars into these sites, hoping to gain customer awareness and attract potential customers. The viewpoints from advertisers are important since they are the ones who are paying sites tons of money to get the attention of their users.
- All of my sources- Every one of my sources that I have included in my essay all have a stake in this paper because I am using the information they provided me to compose a research essay so if the information on the sources aren't right for any reason, the source will then become less trustworthy. The viewpoints of my sources are important and I will be using most of them to support my argument or idea.
- Teachers- I included teachers in general because I wanted to get their prospective in my essay so the portfolio readers can relate or disagree with what other teachers like themselves think about the topic. I will consider the viewpoints of teachers because I was always mad whenever they told me to get off social sites while in high school, so I can use their viewpoints to help address my research topic.
- Schools- Schools are an important stakeholder since many of the public schools all throughout high school have internet restrictions that don't allow students to access social media sites while using their network because they effect student productivity. I will consider the position of school because I want to know how their reason behind restricting internet access.

Assignment 11-Henry Lee
Part 1: After going through and reading the feedback I received from my peers I highlighted some main areas that needed work. They are; being more specific with my research question because as it stand right now, it's too broad. Also I need to go more in-depth on the topics I discussed because many comments told me that I left them with questions after reading my essay which is never good, especially in a research paper. Finally, I need to introduce my sources by using the hamburger method because I can't just assume that my audience knows who each of my sources are. In terms of the goals outlined in our Student Guide, I have a lot of work to do in revising my essay to make these goals achievable. To further develop my ideas I need to do go back to some of my sources and gather more information for my audience so they can understand the complete picture of what I am trying to write.
Part 2: While I re-read my draft I took notes on the bullet points that you had us answer and this is what I came up with- The main purpose in my essay is to inform the readers of the ways that social media has changed the lives of teenagers, and this is important because it seems like everyone around the world has used a social media site and the sites are exponentially growing with users, with the majority of them being in the teenage age range. During this first draft I used nine sources because I wanted to diversify my readers with the different perspectives from these professionals. A change in my essay I need to make is how I introduce my sources because right now I am only providing the names of the sources without properly giving background information on how they relate to my topic, for all they know all of my sources could be homeless people (you never know!). In my next draft I don't think I will be needing additional sources but I do need to gather more in-depth information from the sources I already have. Some of the topics that I need to develop include; online privacy, Facebook, and ultimately I need to come up with a research question that will allow me to address it within my essay. I should include online privacy because it has been in the news a lot because parents' are concerned about the online safety of their children. I want to go more in-depth with Facebook because I left my readers wanting more in my paper so if I can address more about this topic then it will strength my essay. I have been using my sources in order to back up my main ideas in each paragraph but like I said earlier I need to introduce them better so my audience can get a feel for who the author is and how they are relevant to the corresponding topic. So by addressing these issues I feel like I will have a much cleaner and easier to read research paper that will be more complete.
